Who We Are

Women advocacy forum

The Women in Politics Forum (WIPF), is a multi party forum for women which recognizes the marginalization of women in politics, decision making and the importance of unity, regardless of party affiliation, to give a voice to women in politics.
In Nigeria, Women have larger population share than men but their role in the decision making process has been very limited. Discriminatory cultural and religious practices, the absence of legal safeguards, limited access to political party structures, lack of capacity, and poor funding are some of the challenges that have limited the ability of women to actively participate in politics.
Gender is a non-partisan issue, and we recognize the importance of unity, so our members are drawn from all the registered political parties in Nigeria and civil society. This is to increase the number of women in elective and appointive positions to contribute to the development of the nation.
WIPF, through its diverse programs engage in mentorship activities for young women in politicians, trainings for women leaders in political parties, organization strengthening, strategic planning and capacity development of its members.

We have conducted mentorship training for six hundred young women drawn from the six geo political and selected from all the registered political parties in Nigeria. This is to groom future leaders, passing on political and leadership skills and to make sure women are available whenever an opportunity arises. This mentorship program gave birth to the Young Women in Politics Forum.

We partner with Organizations, individuals and other women groups who are working to ensure that governance processes are inclusive and participatory.
